“Encountering nature is like meditation – cleansing and unifying”

I work in the small community of Seutula in Vantaa, surrounded by the Finnish cultural landscape and nature, which provides me with new experiences every day. I sense shapes, colours, variations of light and shadow, constant transformations. Nature is stunningly beautiful, and each day is like an enchanting new journey of discovery. If we are open and curious about life, we find that the treasure is closer than we think. However, the changes in nature are visible and palpable. The fragility and vulnerability of nature awaken our responsibility for what kind of nature we will leave for future generations. Are we closing our eyes or are we making the right choices?

I create art textiles using various sewing and embroidery techniques, as well as loom weaving techniques. In my woven works, I often combine warp painting, relief embroidery and rya rug techniques. The materials I use include yarns, fibres, fabrics and various hard materials and discoveries from nature. My works convey viewers to forest paths, shorelines and flowing water.

I graduated as a textile artist from the University of Art and Design Helsinki (now Aalto University). I am a member of Ornamo Art and Design Finland, Finnish Textile Artists TEXO, Artists O, the Vantaa Artist Association and the Viipuri Artist Association.
